McCarthy and Stone, leading manager and developer of retirement communities, has a forthcoming development ‘Merchants Gate’ in Glasgow’s Pollokshields, and is looking to capture some of the architecture and culture that can be found around every corner of the city so it can be enjoyed by its new residents when they move in later this year.

The competition aims to showcase photographs of scenery, wildlife and landscapes taken by amateur photographers and members of the community that encapsulate their favourite views.

These might be well known views of the Glasgow canal, Pollok Country Park or Victoria Park, or they could be ‘best kept secrets’ or even have a personal meaning – McCarthy and Stone want to hear from you and you could be in with a chance of winning £250.

The photographs will be judged by The Lord Provost Philip Braat and the winning entries will be displayed in the new show apartment at Merchants Gate which is now open to view by appointment.

The Lord Provost said: “I am delighted to be part of this photography competition. Glasgow not only has fabulous buildings, but has many wonderful parks. It is, after all, fondly known as our ‘Dear Green Place’, and in the last few months the significance of our parks has increased as a place to relax and enjoy the outdoors.

“When I go about our city on my duties, I often take a moment to look at the architecture and look up above the eye-line, where often architectural gems can be seen. Whether it be a park scene or a building ranging from the Victorian to the postmodern era, Glasgow has a lot of incredible views to offer.

“I am certain the standard of entries will be very high and it will be a tough task judging them. I want to thank McCarthy and Stone for the competition, which will showcase our great city, and I wish all participants the very best of luck.”

Apartments at Merchants Gate are available for off-plan sales and are already attracting a great deal of interest.

Fiona Brooks, Sales Director at McCarthy and Stone, said: “We have all been enjoying getting out and about in the local countryside a bit more lately and really taking the time to appreciate what’s on our doorstep.

“Glasgow is home to so many stunning views and places to visit, it is important that our new community at Merchants Gate get to discover some of these for themselves, and who better to show them we thought!
