Care firm in East Renfrewshire creating 150 permanent jobs

The firm is set to simplify its training process – which it is providing for free – to get people up to speed so they can help care for others.

Lynn Laughland, managing director of the company, appealed to those now without employment who were looking to help others during the current COVID-19 crisis to contact HRM. She said the jobs can be either permanent or temporary, depending on personal circumstances*. She said carers are classed as key workers and companies like HRM have a critical role to play in Scottish society in helping make sure vulnerable people – many of whom suffer severe life challenges including dementia – stay safe and healthy in their own homes. Currently HRM Homecare employs 246 people and provides 9,000 hours of care for 680 people across west and central Scotland, including Falkirk, Glasgow, North and South Lanarkshire, East Renfrewshire, Renfrewshire and East Dunbartonshire.

Lynn said she is doing whatever she can to continue to provide care for all their service users, and stressed that the offer of paid employment is there for anyone looking for a job from HRM Homecare, and who is willing to help others less fortunate than themselves.

She said she was particularly looking to help service users continue to receive care support in and around Falkirk, North and South Lanarkshire, East Renfrewshire, Renfrewshire and East Dunbartonshire.

She said: “Like the NHS, the care at home sector has a hugely vital role to play in today’s society. For many years we have helped those with severe life challenges continue to live well in their own homes. As everywhere, we are facing an unprecedented threat to our ability to carry out our jobs due to COVID-19.

“However, we at HRM Homecare remain steadfast in our determination to continue to help people who need our care most. We are striving to make sure we have the ability and capability to meet the demand that COVID-19 has brought and are following the current guidance so that every possible safeguard is in place to protect both our staff and our service users from infection from Coronavirus as our carers go about their jobs.

“We are really keen to hear from those passionate about helping others and when the chips are down will show their metal. We will get through this. Together we are stronger.”

Those interested in becoming professional carers would receive two days of intensive training at HRM Homecare, which would include being briefed on the latest social care guidance from the Scottish Government and NHS Scotland.
