Glasgow woman struts her stuff to raise vital funds for Breast Cancer Care Scotland

A Southside resident, who was diagnosed with breast cancer last year took to the catwalk in front of hundreds of people at The Breast Cancer Care Scotland Fashion Show.

The Show saw Carol Zurowski strut her stuff alongside 23 other women who have had a breast cancer diagnosis, modelling a range of outfits at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow on October 24.

The 55-year-old Nanny, who finished treatment in December last year, has helped to raise £155,000 for Breast Cancer Care.

Carol said: “The Show Scotland was absolutely incredible! When I stepped onto the catwalk I could see all my family and friends cheering me on, which was the most amazing feeling. Treatment for breast cancer really saps your confidence but The Show has made me realise I can do anything.

“When I was first diagnosed with breast cancer I was shocked. I had been for early routine screening, as I had recently moved to Glasgow and had changed my medical practice. I had surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. My family, friends and Breast Cancer Care have helped me put my life back together. Breast Cancer Care’s Someone Like Me service has been a great help to me and I know they are always there if I need them.”

The afternoon show was hosted by journalist and broadcaster Jackie Bird while the evening show was hosted by Olympic medal-winning runner Eilidh Doyle.

The show – one of Breast Cancer Care Scotland’s biggest fundraisers of the year – raised £155,000 to support the 4,700 people diagnosed with breast cancer across Scotland each year. The charity has also received more than £3 million from players of People’s Postcode Lottery

Models wore a range of beautiful outfits from House of Fraser, which were professionally styled by Ian Tod. Their hair was styled by Sassoon Salons and celebrity make-up artist Sara Hill’s Academy of Make-up added the finishing touches.

Claire Devlin, Event Manager at Breast Cancer Care Scotland, said: “We are delighted to have raised an incredible £155,000 at this year’s Breast Cancer Care Scotland Fashion Show. Funds raised will help the charity ensure we can continue to support people through one of the most difficult challenges they will ever face.

“We’re so grateful to everyone who came along to show their support for the inspiring women who took to the catwalk and to all those who made this year’s show such a success.”

Funds raised at the event will enable Breast Cancer Care to continue to provide world-class research and life-changing support to anyone affected by breast cancer from day one. The charity provides face to face services such as Moving Forward courses and Living with Secondary Breast Cancer sessions for people affected by the disease.
