Lenzie BB in 270-mile trek tribute to founder for funds

The volunteers, who run the Boys’ Brigade in Lenzie, are aiming to walk 270 miles – virtually – as part of a major effort to raise funds.

The two-week long charity challenge to walk the distance from Glasgow to Thurso, the birthplace of BB founder Sir William Alexander Smith, starts on Monday, July 20.

Callum Dewar, Company Captain, said: “For the last four months, the volunteers at 1st Lenzie BB have continued to provide vital support to our members, their families and the wider community.

“Thanks to the #BBatHome materials, we have ensured that the physical, creative, mental and spiritual needs of our young people are still being met while in lockdown.”

He added: “We have unfortunately lost around £1,000 of fundraising due to Covid-19 from our displays and the cancellation of Lenzie Community Council Gala.”

The group, based at Lenzie Union Parish Church, is trying to get back the £1,000 so that the group can continue to provide opportunities and activities for young people,

Local parent Shona Mackay said: “As the mum of two boys who are part of 1st Lenzie BB I have been overwhelmed by what the company contributes to the community year in year out. Without organisations like them, our local community would suffer, and I would encourage everyone in the area to support the local BB in whatever way they can.”
