The new winter lighting forms part of a range of regeneration projects planned across East Renfrewshire, supported by £1million from the Scottish Government’s Town Centre Fund.

The goal is to help encourage residents to use the amenities in local towns and villages and support local businesses.

Thornliebank, Giffnock, Netherlee, Busby, Newton Mearns, Barrhead, Neilston, Uplawmoor, Eaglesham and Waterfoot have all had new lighting installed.

Festive motifs will be in place until early January, with the main winter lighting remaining in place until the end of March.

Environment Convener, Councillor Alan Lafferty, said: “Our towns and villages are looking very festive and welcoming thanks to this fantastic new winter lighting. During this difficult time, please do try to support local businesses where possible, following current government coronavirus guidance. Many are open for take-away or offer deliveries and online services. We know that the festive period is going to be very different for us all this year and we hope this investment in our towns and villages will give some winter cheer to all our residents.”
