It’s part of a Scotland-wide initiative by lodges to support the wider community during the current coronavirus crisis.

Representatives of Lodge Newton Mearns No. 1706 and Lodge Nitshill No. 1478 handed over the cheque to Pastor David Murray, who runs the foodbank from Pollok Baptist Church in Haughburn Road.

The foodbank not only assists local people struggling to feed themselves in the present crisis, but has started running courses educating young and old how to cook and eat in a healthy way.

David Dempster, of Lodge Newton Mearns, said: “We realise how tough things are for many people at present and are glad to do what we can to help by donating to a local foodbank that is doing such a great job.”
