New statue at Holy Cross Croy is a tribute to the area's proud mining tradition

A dedicated fundraising effort has brought a striking commemorative statue to Holy Cross Croy which honours the area's proud mining heritage and was blessed by a top clergyman who is from the village.

Monsignor Hugh Bradley who is Vicar General for the Archdiocese of Glasgow joined parishioners as a statue of St Joseph The Worker was blessed at the end of the year that Pope Francis had dedicated to the saint.

The statue was purchased by patrons of the popular Men’s Acoustic night and in its plinth is made of the legendary Carrera marble.

In addition two benches were donated by local families so parishioners can sit and draw inspiration from this quiet scenic spot.
