New musical director for Westerton choir

Renowned local singing group Westerton Male Voice Choir are delighted to announce the appointment of a new musical director.

This follows the departure of their long-serving leader Bryan Marshall at the end of last session.

Ian Black, a graduate in Vocal Studies from the Royal Conservatoire, joins the local singers for the start of a new choir year.

Members, now more than 50 strong, are looking forward to what is hoped will be a long and successful relationship that will maintain and develop the high performance levels of recent times.

Choir chairman Ken MacLeod said: “In current circumstances, the start of the choir year will be a strange one with rehearsals initially being held online, with opportunities for small group rehearsals being explored.

“As a charity, WMVC are wholly committed to developing and encouraging male voice choral singing and looking as always to welcome new members from anywhere in the Greater Glasgow area, aged 16 and over.

“We rehearse on Tuesday evenings, usually in Bearsden, and remain a non-auditioning choir for men who simply want to sing. We’re particularly in need of you ‘deep growlers’, or basses as more popularly known!”

For anyone who thinks they can sing and would like to get more information about joining, visit the choir’s website at www.wmvc.scot, contact Ken MacLeod, Chairman, on 07774 974322 or email him at [email protected].

Ken added: “An early opportunity to join us at one of our Zoom meetings could be expected – but bring your own water bottle!

“The choir will not be holding their traditional Christmas concerts this year but do intend to make their presence felt in the district with some ‘wassailing’ carol-singing – keep your eyes open
locally and support us if you can!”
