Declan Fishwick, Marketing Executive for the North Division for McCarthy and Stone, said: “We were thrilled to welcome the Lord Provost to celebrate the opening of Merchants Gate.

“For many of us, lockdown has made us reassess our housing needs, and so we are seeing more retirees deciding to downsize. The low maintenance living available at Merchants Gate allows our residents to stay independent for longer, but with the added safety and security that being part of a thriving community affords.”

McCarthy and Stone’s Retirement Living communities are thoughtfully-designed exclusively for the over 60s to provide the very best in modern, independent living within a safe and secure environment.

Comprising 56 one and two-bedroom apartments, Merchants Gate features a spacious communal lounge, landscaped gardens, and a convenient guest suite for when friends and family come to stay. A House Manager takes care of the smooth-running of the development; while a security entrance system and 24-hour emergency call points provide added peace-of-mind for residents.

The development benefits from being close to local amenities, including the shops and cafes on Nithsdale Road, Maxwell Park, and Maxwell Park train station.

Prices at Merchants Gate currently start from just £189,000 for a one-bedroom apartment and from £279,000 for a two-bedroom apartment.

More than nine out of 10 customers would recommend McCarthy and Stone to a friend, ensuring it has received the full Five Star award for customer satisfaction from the Home Builders Federation for 15 years’ running. McCarthy and Stone is the only UK house builder of any size or type to achieve this accolade every year the awards have been run.
