As part of a commitment to improve the maintenance and heritage conservation of the Mugdock and Craigmaddie reservoirs visited by 160,000 people per year, Scottish Water has been carrying out work to deliver visual improvements to the site.

These include the clearance of overgrown vegetation and removal of redundant signs and infrastructure.

On a visit to the site, Milngavie MSP Gil Paterson said: “Scottish Water’s work at the Milngavie reservoirs so far has been truly transformative.

“The restoration works are very important because this is an iconic beauty spot, as well as a vital water supply, that should be experienced and enjoyed.”

Eddie Yacoubian, of the Friends of Milngavie Reservoir (FOMR) group, said: “We are really pleased to see this improvement work progressing.”

Work completed so far includes the installation of a new sign in the car park next to Commissioners’ Cottage to be used by the Friends group beside the two reservoirs, which will feature information about the area.

Eddie added: “The FOMR sign will be a way of keeping local people informed about any further improvement work and about anything newsworthy that affects the reservoirs which, aside from the important job they do for Scottish Water’s provision of water across Glasgow, are a beautiful recreational amenity treasured by so many people.”
