Scottish EDGE award for talented Giffnock teenager who battled cancer

Suhit, who featured in the Extra last year, was recognised for his entrepreneurial vision at an awards ceremony in Edinburgh last Thursday when he also won £10,000 investment for his business Saulderson Media – an influencer marketing agency which represents key players in the gaming industry.

Suhit (18), the depute head boy at Hutchesons’ Grammar School said: “I was honoured to be selected as a winner of the Young EDGE and even more thrilled to hear that I made history being the youngest ever winner of an EDGE award.”

Suhit hit the headlines last December after his entrepreneurial spirit and flair saw him launch his own business while undergoing aggressive chemotherapy treatment for Stage 2A Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and studying for his Higher exams.

He successfully battled the cancer and has been in remission since September 2018.

He achieved six A-grades in his Higher exams and he grew his business to a six-figure turnover in its first six months.

His business success story was featured on BBC television and radio.

Suhit is regularly invited to speak at business events.

Last month he gave a talk at SocialDay in London which is the UK’s Top Social Media Marketing Festival and next week he will be the speaker at the June Startup Grind Glasgow event. Startup Grind is powered by Google for Entrepreneurs.

He was also invited to speak at the East Renfrewshire Business Week earlier this month.

Suhit added: “This grant will really help Saulderson Media and allow me to expand our team as well as implement the first steps in a platform we are developing. These things will ensure we can provide an even better service to our clients and enable us to increase our client base.”

In total, in this round of awards, Scottish EGDE granted over £1 million to ground-breaking Scottish start-up businesses.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Scottish EGDE CEO, Evelyn McDonald, congratulated all the winners.

She said: “Tonight’s ceremony offers great encouragement as a snapshot of the current state of entrepreneurship in Scotland.

“The vast array of exciting businesses that our panels have chosen to support – from celebrity endorsed sustainable handbags and ground-breaking cancer treatments, to teenager founded marketing agencies and bagpiper illness preventers – show that Scotland really does offer the kind of outside-the-box entrepreneurial thinking needed to achieve recognition in a global market.”
