The Wee Retreat plan public meditation to mark UN Peace Day in Glasgow

Every year the UN host World Peace Day day which offers a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to Peace above all differences and to contribute to building a Culture of Peace.

Glasgow needs to be part of this and The Wee Retreat CIC founder and mum of two, Vicky Kakos, decided to do just that and put us on the map alongside more than 350 events happening in different places all over the world.

Last year Vicky organised a mass meditation for Glaswegians and friends to mark International Day of Peace 2018. The event was attended by 100 people and was a resounding success.

This year, Vicky is planning for the event to be even bigger and so, with the support of Interfaith Scotland, has booked the beautiful Strathclyde suite at the Concert Hall over lunchtime on Saturday 21st September so that the one minute silence at 12 noon can be observed and shared together.

Vicky is absolutely thrilled that Mindfulness expert Suryacitta Malcom Smith has agreed to take part and lead the meditation for the event. Authoring two books, as well as having taught 1000s of people internationally, Suryacitta, who started practicing in 1989, is one of the most experienced mindfulness teachers in the UK.

And with David from Samadhi Soundscapes joining us again to play the handpan, the event will be truly magical!

Vicky Kakos, event organiser, said: “I am so excited to bring the Glasgow community together again to show the world the city cares about World Peace. I have experienced firsthand the difference meditation can make and if we can harness the benefits of this to honour such an important day again this year it really will be truly something Glasgow can be proud of.”
