TSB urged to rethink closure of Thornliebank branch

Kirsten Oswald, MP for East Renfrewshire, is calling on TSB to review closure plans for its Thornliebank branch.

Kirsten has written to the TSB asking the company to review its plans for closure of its Thornliebank branch, which is the latest in a long line of bank closures to affect East Renfrewshire.

The proposed closure of the Thornliebank branch is one of 73 TSB branch closures across Scotland announced yesterday (September 30).

The bank has defended its decision by referring to a growing shift towards digital banking and a reduction in the number of customers using branches.

Kirsten has joined colleagues across Scotland in calling for an urgent meeting with TSB bosses to discuss the impact of their decision on Thornliebank and other communities.

Kirsten said: “Despite the increased use of digital banking, there are times when a face-to-face banking service in the local community is essential for my constituents.

“I am urging TSB to rethink this decision to close the Thornliebank branch as part of what we need to do to help our high streets recover from this pandemic.

“I have requested a meeting with TSB officials on the issue and I will fight to keep this branch open and to have TSB and other banks find a way to ensure our communities retain direct access to banking services.”
