Council planning permission to erect a 200 foot high turbine at Woodlands Farm, near New Trows, Lesmahagow has been refused on the grounds that there are already too many of them in the area already, marring the local scenery.
The decision by South Lanarkshire Council’s planning committee as the Gazette went to press last week could be a landmark one as the council tries to balance the Scottish Government’s drive to have Scotland entirely powered by renewable energy by 2020 with calls from the likes of rural Clydesdale MP David Mundell and some local communities that there are already too many turbines crowding the area’s skyline, potentially damaging our area’s valuable tourist trade.
