Petition to wind up hotelis dropped

The petition lodged at Lanark Sheriff Court last month has been dismissed.

In that petition, HMRC asked the court to wind up Shieldhill Castle Hotel Ltd under the Insolvency Act and to appoint a liquidator.

The petition claimed that the business, based in the historic Shieldhill at Quothquan, owed more than £250,000 for VAT and other taxes and was unable to pay.

Mary Yuill, director of the company, stated from the outset that it was “business as usual” at the hotel, which has been making a name for itself as a wedding venue, and that she was happy to talk to 
those with bookings for weddings.

And this week she was not surprised at the petition being dismissed.

“I knew all along that this was going to happen,” she said.

“I have dealt with the phone calls and people personally, and it has always been business as usual.”

While that was going on, the company was quietly celebrating winning the coveted award for best wedding venue in the south west at the Scottish Wedding Awards, for the second year in succession.

The hotel offers religious or civic ceremonies, with the old chapel of the house available for marriages.

The company has also been making plans for its Wedding Fair on March 20, for those looking to get married.

Local suppliers are among those exhibiting their services on the day.
