Pettinain Gala Day 2010

AFTER last year's washout, organisers of Pettinain Gala Day were overjoyed to see the sun on Saturday.

And that brought a lot of children — and adults — out to compete in the races.

"We had a great day," said committee chairperson Jane MacDonnell.

"Last year we had just four races and abandoned the rest, but this year we had 35 races and everybody joined in."

Jane would like to thank the committee and the extra helpers who turned out this year, making the whole event easier to run and more enjoyable for everyone.

She added: "We could not do galas like other villages because we are so small, so we have races. The children come to Pettinain Gala to run."
