Pipe band to put their best foot forward

THE ever popular Kilsyth Thistle Pipe Band are to have a whip round, but will be putting in some serious leg work to do it.

This Friday, December 9, the group are planning to visit as many pubs and clubs around Kilsyth as humanly possible.

At each they will perform a number of Christmas tunes to get everyone in the festive spirit, and perhaps enjoy a small tipple with the regulars.

The band annually undertake this tour of the town’s drinking dens to raise much-needed funds to allow them to compete throughout the pipe band season.

Last year’s event had to be cancelled due to the heavy snowfall, but in 2009 a total of £600 was raised.

Secretary Stevie Kinvig said: “It’s always a good night for everybody – the pubs enjoy having us in and we enjoy performing.

“It’s like everything else, running costs continue to rise and money’s tight, so we really appreciate any donations that people make to support us.”

The tour will begin at 6pm and will not stop until closing time.

The band would also like to inform any Chronicle readers in far flung corners of the globe that they too can make a donation to the fund, by sending a cheque to Stevie Kinvig, Kilsyth Thistle Pipe Band, Band Hall, Deacons Road, Kilsyth, G65 0BN.
