A reporter from the Scottish Government Directorate of Planning and Environmental Appeals overturned the decision by East Dunbartonshire Council to refuse the application.

However, Morrisons won’t get to built a petrol station and long stay car park after an appeal against the refusal of the application was dismissed.

A spokesperson for Morrisons said: “We are really happy with the result regarding the store, but are disappointed regarding the decision over the petrol station.”

The plans have sparked opposition among many residents, but many are also in favour of the development.
