Plans for quarry and luxury new housing estate at New Lanark

THE jewel in Clydesdale’s tourism crown, New Lanark, is now under attack on two different fronts.

That claim was made this week as the controversial plan to quarry close to the World Heritage Village was joined by a scheme to build a major new luxury housing estate on the opposite bank of the Clyde.

It was already going to be a worrying week for those concerned with the preservation of the surroundings of the village.
