Plans submitted for new open cast mine in Clyde Valley

Scottish Coal has submitted plans for another huge open cast mine in the Douglas Valley.

The company has lodged plans with South Lanarkshire Council for the Glentaggart East Surface Mine, near Douglas.

It wants to extract up to four million tonnes of coal and up to 200,000 tonnes of other minerals over a 10-year-period, starting early next year.
