Plea to bring Commonwealth baton to Clydesdale

The baton will be travelling through the streets of South Lanarkshire on Sunday, June 22, and it is hoped that – unlike the Olympic Torch – it will be carried on the streets of Clydesdale.

One woman who is desperate for that to transpire is Jennifer Tawse, from Biggar, who carried the Olympic Torch through the streets of Glasgow last year.

“It is really hard to explain just how amazing it was,” said Jennifer.

“I went into local primary schools with my Olympic Torch and the children (and teachers) went absolutely wild.”

And a growing army of local politicians are also now lobbying for the baton to make it to Clydesdale.
