Poet of Royal note

ONE of Kilsyth’s most famous poets has received a letter of thanks from the Queen for her latest literary works.

Anne Russell, of Rennie Road, was asked to write a poem for Kilsyth Community Council’s Diamond Jubliee celebration which was held in The Coachman Hotel on June 5.

Her poem was such a hit that several people suggested she send it to the Queen - and she did just that, receiving back a letter of thanks on Thursday, August 16, from Her Majesty’s Lady in Waiting.

The letter advised that the Queen “was touched by the sentiments”.

She said: “You are either inspired or you are not inspired to write a poem. At first, I was going to write a poem about the monarchy but I was getting nowhere.

“I then decided to write about the Queen as a person, and it took off from there.”
