Poetic justice

WHEN it comes to poetry, Cumbernauld and Kilsyth school pupils are tops.

Greenfaulds High’s Louise Richardson and Kilsyth Academy pupil Amy Dodds (above) wowed the judges at the recent Reigart Poetry Competition.

This year’s theme of ‘Home’ proved to stir a great mix of feelings, images and memories after a mammoth 1500 entries flooded in from primary schools, secondary schools and adults in North Lanarkshire, showing that poetry is still very much alive.

The competition was split across six categories with Louise emerging as the overall winner and Amy taking top spot in the S1+ category.

The girls received their awards at a special prizegiving held in Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life on Burns Day, January 25.

Kate Reilly of Reigart, said: “We extend sincere congratulations to all who took part in what has once again been a thoroughly successful competition.”
