Police appeal following attempted robbery on Pollokshaws Road

Police Scotland is appealing for information from the public after a man attempted to rob a shopkeeper in Glasgow yesterday evening (Tuesday, April 2).

At around 8.40pm the 36 year-old shopkeeper was within Shop Smart on Pollokshaws Road, at Allison Street, when a man entered carrying a knife and demanded money.

The suspect then made off empty handed in the direction of Allison Street, and then on to Niddrie Road. Nobody was injured during the incident.

The suspect is described as white, between 30-40 years of age and is of medium to stocky build. He was wearing a white jumper, light brown trousers and a white coloured beanie hat which he had used to cover his face when he was within the shop.

Detective Sergeant Neil Guy, Community Investigation Unit, said: “Although nobody was hurt, this was a terrifying experience for the shop keeper and it is vital that we find the person responsible.

“The suspect did not run when he left and therefore may not have looked out of character. He was however wearing a white beanie hat which somebody who walked past him may have noticed.

“We know he went down Allison Street and then turned right onto Niddrie Road. CCTV enquiries show us that there were a number of people in this area, either walking their dogs or making their way home.
