Police hunt armed thugs who raided house

Police are appealing for information following a robbery in Glenboig on Sunday, February 21.

At around 9.35pm on Sunday evening, a 56 year old man answered the door of his home in McGregor Path and was confronted by three men who forced their way into his home before stealing a three figure sum of money.

The householder was not injured by the men, two of them were armed with bladed weapons.

The three suspects were all white and had scarves covering their faces.

One was described as being around 5ft7in in height, of slim build, with a Scottish accent and wearing a dark hooded top.

Another one of the raiders is described as around 6ft in height, of heavy build, with a Scottish accent and wearing an olive green hooded top.

Detective Sergeant Peter Lennon, from Coatbridge CID, said: “Thankfully the man was not injured, however, it was a very frightening experience for him, especially the fact that the men threatened him with weapons.

“At this time officers are checking CCTV and speaking to neighbours to glean information. It’s a residential area so it’s possible that someone heard or saw something that will assist officers with their enquiries.
