Police increase patrols in Cumbernauld after six women are mugged

POLICE have upped their patrols in Cumbernauld after several women have been targeted by thieves for their handbags in the last week.

At least six separate incidents are being investigated including one woman who fought off a would-be-thief on Friday, February 8.

The first happened on Monday, February 4, and the latest last night.

DI Bob Frew, from Cumbernauld Police Office, is leading the enquiry.

He said: “These have been frightening attacks for the women involved and we can’t rule out the same man being responsible for all six.

“The description offered by witnesses is a man, around 5’ 7”, slim and wearing a grey hooded top, dark coloured jacked, dark bottoms and light trainers

“It’s imperative we catch whoever’s responsible for these cowardly attacks.

“In the meantime we have extra patrols across Cumbernauld so people can feel safe while going about their daily business.”
