Police plan ahead for tough times

The local police plan for 2014-2017 will set out how East Ren will be policed in the next three years.

Inspector Dickson told The Extra: “We want to work more closely with the council towards a common aim.

“That is the best way to work smarter in the current financial climate.

“Closer links will allow us to stop minor issues becoming major ones.

“As an example, with co-operation we can help ensure a noisy party does not descend into a stabbing.

“We will work at a grassroots level with the housing department and trading standards to attack bogus crime .

“We will also support council initiatives.

“We hope this plan will mean less crime and disorder on the street. That’s our objective, but that doesn’t afford us any new resources.”

In the plan, East Renfrewshire police propose targeting four key areas: violence, disorder and anti-social behaviour; protecting people; increasing confidence and local engagement; and tackling serious crime and responding to major events.

The plan has this week been submitted to East Renfrewshire council for approval.

As part of the plans to better use resources, Giffnock police office will now be staffed by civilian workers between 7am and midnight.

Inspector Dickson added: “This will allow more police officers to be out on the 
street.”
