Police urged to focus on crime to catch rowdy youths at shops

CCTV cameras are needed to clamp down on anti-social behaviour in Bishopbriggs.

That’s the plea from a concerned resident who says young people gather at the shops on the corner of Beech Road and Auchinairn Road.

The man raised the problem with police and a councillor at a meeting of Bishopbriggs Community Council.

He said: “They are littering and causing a disturbance. They are drinking out of cans and bottles. Guys have to come out every day to clean the place up.

“There’s nothing there to catch them. If there was a CCTV camera in the area it could pick up who is causing the problem.”

Kenny Simpson, head of housing and community services at the council, said: “Both the community protection service and Strathclyde Police are aware and are currently addressing the issues in the area outside the shops at Beech Road and Auchinairn Road.

“Increased patrols of local police, supported by environmental wardens have been agreed to tackle the youth disorder issues.

“Consideration will also be given to deployment of mobile CCTV in this area should this be deemed appropriate by the agencies involved.”
