Their warning comes after they received a report from a pilot at the weekend that a green laser was directed at the aircraft as he was flying over Bearsden (near Asda supermarket) on Saturday, June 25 at 10.50pm.

Constable Stuart Cairns from Kirkintilloch Police Office, said: “Use of a laser pen in this manner is extremely reckless and could have catastrophic consequences for the person distracted, who in this case, was the pilot of an aircraft.

“It could even cause a pilot to lose control of a plane.
