The advice follows a theft at The Avenue shopping centre in Newton Mearns last Friday (September 20), when a woman in her 60s had her purse stolen.

Inspector Alan Dickson, of Giffnock police office, told The Extra: “The lady lost her bank and credit cards, driving licence and a three figure sum of cash.

“The thieves then made attempts to use the cards, but fortunately they were unsuccessful.

“If anyone saw anything suspicious at the time then please contact us on the non-emergency number 101.

“We’d also like to warn people to be aware of their personal possessions — particularly purses and wallets — when out and about shopping.

“It’s also very important not to store pin numbers near your bank cards, in your purse, wallet or handbag.”
