At the beginning of what is Referendum Year, the Clydesdale Better Together campaign, fighting to keep the United Kingdom united, officially launches its local crusade with a rally, starting at 6.30pm in the historic Corn Exchange.

Organisers are stressing that, from the very start, theirs will be very much a ‘local’ campaign and, certainly, they are hoping to use the event to attract grassroots support.

The stage that night will feature some very well-known political figures in Clydesdale, including local MP David Mundell of the Conservatives, MSP Jim Hume of the Liberal Democrats, Labour councillor Ralph Barker and retired businessman and former political candidate Arthur Bell.

Said Arthur, who will chair the meeting: “Too many myths and wild ideas have been around the independence debate for too long. I hope to hear sound common sense from our speakers.”
