She said she had been forced to act as a result of East Renfrewshire Councils proposed Local Development Plan to build houses on land currently forming part of Broomburn Park and the adjoining Broom Car Park.

“Broomburn is an ongoing key concern to all who live in this area – and for me it was the catalyst that motivated me to stand in the election,” said Bev, who works from home as a freelance property writer. “Broom Park is a designated green space for community use and if the council gets away with this plan it could set a precedent for the wider area.

“There are many other factors that make it a time for change in ERC – but I fear local concerns may be swept aside as the major political parties use May 4th to jostle for power and waste time on Brexit and a possible second referendum. I fervently believe national politics have no place in local authority elections and only serve to muddy the water by swaying voters with party banners and national issues – when the real issues at stake are crucial in shaping the way forward for our community. As the only independent candidate standing in Ward Five, Newton Mearns South and Eaglesham, I believe I am uniquely placed to address local issues and put residents first, without having to toe any party line.”

Bev has lived in East Renfrewshire for more than 20 years will be out and about in the ward over the next few weeks to talk with residents regarding local issues. She can also be contacted by email at [email protected].
