East Renfrewshire’s money advice team generates over £7 million for residents

East Renfrewshire Council’s Money Advice and Rights Team generated an incredible £7,323,476 for residents during the past year.

The team, which offers financial support to residents across East Renfrewshire, generated the cash through income maximisation, assisting with benefit applications and appeals, and help with consolidating debts.

This comes after the team was awarded the top level of accreditation from the Scottish Government in recognition of the important support and advice it offered local residents last year.

The support the team offer is more important than ever during the coronavirus pandemic and their team of 20 have been helping residents access food and supplies, crisis grants and supporting Universal Credit applications.

Housing and Maintenance Convener, Councillor Danny Devlin, said: “I would like to congratulate the Money Advice and Rights Team for the work this amount represents. They continually offer vital support to people in East Renfrewshire, but it is only when you see this total that you realise how much of a difference they make to people’s lives.

“I would encourage anyone who is worried about money or facing hardship to get in touch with them and see if they can help you too.”
