Due to significantly reduced staffing levels caused by Coronavirus, from Monday, April 6, East Renfrewshire Council will only be operating a weekly grey bin collection for each household.

While the council says it is extremely proud of its excellent recycling rates, it is currently operating with half its normal refuse collection staff.

So the decision to collect the grey bin only has been taken to provide residents with as much waste collection as possible and to prevent any confusion over which bin to put out each week.

Here’s the latest information from East Renfrewshire Council:

• If you’ve somewhere you can safely store your recyclable waste, please do so, cleaning all cans, glass and plastic. It’ll be collected when normal service is resumed.

• Grey bin waste will be sent to a special recovery centre and converted to green energy – wherever possible it won’t be sent to landfill.

• There will be no further blue, brown or green bin collections from week commencing Monday, 6April, onwards.

• Please don’t leave additional waste in bags beside your grey bin – it isn’t safe for our staff to touch and it won’t be collected.

• If you do have excess garden waste, we suggest finding an area in the garden suitable to allow it to compost naturally.

• No further requests for additional grey bins will be accepted.

• There will be no further special uplift bookings taken. Any pre-booked uplifts will be collected.

• We will still aim to collect your bin on the normal collection day.

Trade waste collections, litter bin emptying and manual street sweeping will operate as normal for the time being.

The recycling centres at Greenhags and Barrhead are now closed, in line with the latest government advice.
