Fare4Free celebrates its first anniversary

Fares4Free is a charity that encourages taxi drivers to give up to four of their fares for free every month to help veterans who otherwise face difficulty in getting out. Many armed forces veterans find it difficult to make it to vital appointments or events without this kind of support.

On April 9, 2016, Fares4Free dropped off its first passengers at Glasgow Airport and since then it has driven 1476 passengers on 682 journeys. The value of journeys given by drivers and companies around the country has already reached over £40,000.

Kirsten Oswald MP has worked closely with Fares4Free since its inception and praised the support it provide sin East Renfrewshire.

She said: “I am delighted to support Fares4Free, and I wholeheartedly congratulate David and his colleagues on the huge amount that has been achieved since the charity launched. What they have managed to achieve in one year is very impressive. It has been an amazing journey so far for Fares4Free and I am very pleased to see them go from strength to strength.

“Fares4Free is changing people’s lives for the better and I am proud to work with this important and worthwhile local charity.”
