Mr Swinney, the Scottish Government’s Cabinet Secretary for Finance, was joined by Michelle Thomson, MD of the pro-independence group, Business for Scotland.

The event, organised by Yes Clydesdale, the local group campaigning for a Yes vote in the September 18 referendum, was directed predominately at Clydesdale’s business community.

It was estimated that more than 70 local businesses were represented in the hall on the night.

Yes Clydesdale’s Ian McAllan said: “I would like to thank the local business people who attended.

“In my experience, as the referendum approaches, there is an increasing appetite for information and for the facts about independence – Monday night’s turnout was a testament to that.”
