Glasgow election results 2022: SNP pip Labour to win most council seats

With Maryhill to be announced, both were on 35, short of the 43 - more than half of the 85 Glasgow councillors - needed to form a majority council administration.
But the SNP then won two seats in Maryhill, with Labour winning one, bringing them to a final total of 37, with Labour on 36.

Hide AdMeanwhile, it was a great day for the Greens, who scored a record haul of 10 councillors.
Susan Aitken, the former Glasgow council leader, has been re-elected to represent Langside - but it was the Greens’ Holly Bruce who came first on first preference votes.
Meanwhile, Elaine Gallagher made history when she was elected as Glasgow’s first trans councillor.
The Tories dropped to just two councillors.

Susan Aitken thanks voters
Susan Aitken spoke to the media after she was re-elected to represent Langside.
The former Glasgow City Council leader said: “I am delighted and grateful to my constituents who have elected me again. The best part of this is being a ward councillor for Langside. I am delighted people have placed their faith in me. I will see you in Toryglen on Monday.”
New councillor speaks
Sharon Greer speaks to the media after being elected to represent the North East.
She said: “I’m a first time candidate, I never thought that I would do this but the state that I saw my city, and what was happening to my city, I had to run. I had to put myself forward.”
Labour councillor speaks
Malcolm Cunning (Labour) tells the media: “I am chuffed that we have two Labour councillors in Linn. Whatever happens today it has been a superb campaign. If we hadn’t got two labour councillors in Linn I would have been disappointed.”
