Nominations wanted for new community council

Residents who are passionate about their local area are being urged to get involved in the new Eaglesham and Waterfoot Community Council.

Nominations are now open to anyone who is 16 or over, on the electoral register and are keen to make a difference in their local area. The deadline for nominations being submitted is Wednesday, June 28, at 4.45pm.

Councillor Colm Merrick, East Renfrewshire convener for community services and community safety, said: “We’re looking for people from all walks of life. All you need are ideas, energy and enthusiasm and we will provide as much support as you need to get the best from being a community representative.”

As part of the nomination process candidates are required to submit a personal statement of up to 250 words in support of their nomination. Candidates need a proposer and seconder who must all stay in the relevant neighbourhood area. Self-nomination is not permitted.

Following the election, if sufficient nominations are received, a new community council will be established in Eaglesham and Waterfoot. Training and support will be provided for all new community representatives.
