Tories win majority of council seats in East Renfrewshire election

There's sure to be some closed door meetings going on to determine who will form the administration.

The group took seven of the 18 available seats, with Labour only managing four, the SNP five seats and the remaining two going to independent candidates.

This leaves an interesting challenge ahead, whether the ‘old guard’ coalition of a Labour/SNP administration will prevail, or whether the Conservatives can come to a working agreement with the two Indy councillors.

There is little doubt however, that there is no possibility of the SNP working out a deal with the Conservative councillors, and that leaves labour in the awkward position of having to decide how much support they want to provide their General Election candidate, Blair McDougall with, should they decide to have a pact with the SNP in the council administration during the run up to the General Election.

Despite having the largest majority of councillors, this doesn’t guarantee the Tory party a controlling interest - unless Labour and the SNP cannot reach an agreement on a coalition deal.
