Town centre improvement programme

Improvements planned for Cumbernauld Town Centre

The works, scheduled for completion by April, are the latest investment from North Lanarkshire Council and Campsies Centre (Cumbernauld) Ltd.

Improvements will be made to footpaths, drainage and lighting, landscaping and the cleaning up of overgrown greenery. Requests from the North Lanarkshire Disability Access Panel, such as dropped kerbs and tactile paving, will also be addressed.

In March new signs will also be installed around the shopping centres to help people find their way around more easily.

Campsies Centre chairman Councillor Allan Graham said: “This is the start of what promises to be a very busy year of investment and planning in the town.

“Within the next few weeks the council will be releasing the draft Cumbernauld Town Centre Framework and Action Plan to public consultation.

“It is vital we get as many responses as possible during the eight week consultation period. The framework will map out the future of the town centre area for the next 5-10 years.”

The council and Strathclyde Partnership for Transport are also looking into improving the bus facilities on Central Way while plans are being drawn up to create a new partner organisation including centre owners, Campsies Centre and the council.

Councillor Graham added: “Closer working is needed to make Cumbernauld town centre a place for local people to be proud of.”
