East Renfrewshire council’s free money advice support, on the other hand, is offering to help people reclaim — and keep — 100% of what they’re due.

They are aware that some companies are targeting East Ren residents on the phone under the guise of helping them.

But the money advice team provide advice on how people can claim for themselves and provide them with the documentation they need, at no cost.

Councillor Ian McAlpine, convener for corporate services, said: “Our money advice staff offer free, confidential, impartial and independent advice.

“We help East Renfrewshire residents resolve their financial problems.

“We can give advice face-to-face, by phone or by e-mail and if you have mobility or access issues, we can visit you in your home.

“We will help you get your money back if you have been mis-sold payment protection insurance. We can also advise you if you have a payday loan.”
