A proposal to mine 600,000 tonnes of sand from Prettsmill at Sandilands over the next 20 years has been formally submitted to the planning authority, South Lanarkshire Council.

The site is just across the Clyde from the highly controversial Cemex quarrying proposal for Bonnington on the fringes of New Lanark.
