Prince William sends good wishes for Biggar family in New Zealand earthquake

Readers know all about a Biggar family caught up in the New Zealand earthquake – and now Prince William knows about them too.

Helen Leslie contacted the Gazette at the end of February to tell of the ordeal her daughter Claire Hollobon (nee Kivlin), her husband Matt and sons Forbes (8) and Lyle (5) were going through in the wreckage of Christchurch.

But when Prince William was visiting the city, Helen wrote to him and, even though busy with preparations for his wedding, he took time to have his office write back to her!

“His visit really cheered the city up and Claire and her family said it was a lovely experience,” Helen told the Gazette this week.

“Unbeknown to Claire I had written to Prince William before his visit to New Zealand and told him about my daughter and her family. I received a lovely letter back from Prince William’s office telling me about his visit and wishing Claire and the family well.”

Claire (39) also emailed the Gazette this week with a report on life as it is lived currently in the earthquake aftermath.
