The 2015 Tea with the Provost event saw these special local residents enjoying afternoon tea with Provost Una Walker and local councillors – who had been given the task of nominating people who had “gone the extra mile” for their commuinities.

Provost Walker said the event was one of the highlights of her year, commenting: “The standard of nominations for these awards is always extremely high, and this year was no different. We heard about some exceptional people, all of whom are making a real difference to the area they live in. My sincere congratulations go out to each and every recipient.”

Bill Munro and his wife Catherine, from Lenzie, received awards for their work in the voluntary sector and in particular with a foodbank at Kirkintilloch Baptist Church.

Bill said: “It was lovely to be nominated by our councillor, Rhondda Geekie, and we had a very pleasant afternoon. I am only one of a large team of volunteers at Kirkintilloch Baptist Church who helps to run a foodbank on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday. When we were setting up the foodbank we approached Councillor Geekie who helped us secure premises and get things off the ground.

“There is a great deal of need in the area and it’s very rewarding to play a part in helping these people.”
