£100k makeover for Holyrood bright sparks

The school will be transformed with state-of-the-art energy-saving technology, such as solar panels, LED lighting and a new energy efficient boiler.

The youngsters danced their way to success in the action-packed final at INTU Braehead Shopping Centre in Glasgow.

The youngsters were declared champions of the Scottish competition thanks to their energy-inspired dance.

The children beat off stiff competition from pupils at King’s Park Secondary after being awarded the highest number of points for their performance and the energy created when they danced on a special power-generating Pavegen dance mat.

The energy effiicient makeover could save the school up to £7,000 a year on their fuel bills.

Heart Scotland DJ, Paul Harper said: “I was blown away by the amazing performance by Holyrood school. The kids had a fantastic routine and I was really impressed with how they combined the energy inspired moves into their dance in such a creative, energetic and fun way.”

Rohan Bole aged 16 from Holyrood said: ”Myself and a few of the girls in the group are Irish dancers, and some are Bollywood dancers, so we thought we would merge the two to create an impressive routine for the judges.”

Leigh Currie of Scottish Gas added: “The pupils have captured the spirit of Generation Green with their creative dance routine and imaginative ideas for an eco-school, and are now budding energy innovators for the future.”
