£120,000 upgrade planned for school

A secondary school that was branded an eyesore earlier this year is to get a bumper £120,000 face-lift.

Greenfaulds High School will see both its science and technical rooms revamped next year, after education bosses agreed that an upgrade was needed.

The issue first came to light when a Cumbernauld councillor visited the secondary school on an unrelated matter and was dismayed by what he viewed as the very poor condition of the building.

Labour councillor Danny Carrigan even called for the school to be demolished, after expressing his concerns about the accommodation.

A spokesperson for North Lanarkshire Council confirmed that the cash had been earmarked for the project.

He added: "The plans are still being finalised and we hope to start work at the school early next year."

Councillor Carrigan said:"I am delighted to see that improvements will be made at Greenfaulds High School. This will be welcomed by pupils, staff and parents."
