£1.6 million lotto cash for Double Row, New Lanark

THE LAST millworkers’ tenement at New Lanark World Heritage Site is to be restored, thanks to the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The restoration of the last block of the 18th century millworkers’ housing in the historic village – one of the largest and most successful conservation projects in Europe going back to 1974 – will now be completed.

It still needs final confirmation but the HLF has set aside £1.6 million in funding for New Lanark from over £5 million announced to town centre projects across Scotland on Monday.

Lorna Davidson, director of New Lanark Trust. said: “This is a big step forward for New Lanark Trust in finally achieving the restoration of Double Row.”
