£2 million for Clyde and Avon Valley

THE HERITAGE Lottery Fund has earmarked £2 million to help communities look after land in the Clyde and Avon Valley.

If approved, the cash would go to the Clyde and Avon Valley Landscape Partnership.

The area runs from Chatelherault Country Park in Hamilton to Falls of Clyde Scottish Wildlife Trust Reserve at New Lanark.

The HLF has awarded a 2 million first-round pass; it does not guarantee funding but indicates its support.

But if it goes ahead, the Award will create improved paths through the landscape.

Enterprise resources committee chair Councillor Chris Thompson said: "The HLF award is a fantastic opportunity for all the partners to work closely with local residents and land owners to preserve and enhance our beautiful landscape."
