£2k in good causes for Belmont House

Belmont House School pupils have pulled out all the stops for charity, raising over £2,000 in just two days.

Youngsters at the Newton Mearns school dedicated last Tuesday (November 11) to remembrance, with family and friends attending an event in aid of Help for Heroes and Poppy Scotland.

In honour of Armistice Day and the World War One centenary, guests were treated to war time poems and music performed by J5-S6 pupils, as well as tea and homebaking.

But the charity endeavours weren’t over for the week, as sixth year pupils then turned their attentions to Children in Need.

Friday’s fundraising fun included cake and candy, leg waxing and a talent show - as well as gunging the teachers and soaking the prefects.

Senior pupils Karen Paul, Ross Leggat, Holly McLelland, Russell Macpherson, Jodie Murphy, Miriam Samuel, Adil Akram, Awais Bashir and Aqsa Sharif (all pictured) had their minute in the spotlight afterwards, taking the school’s sizeable cheque to BBC Glasgow studios for the live Children in Need appeal.

Money is still coming in for both good causes, but the school has exceeded £2,000 between them — congratulations to all involved.
