£5m community hub approved for Lennoxtown

The council’s planning board approved consent for the construction of the new facility, which will contain a public library, council services, 
offices, community spaces and NHS facilities last week.

Work on the new Community Hub, which is being built in partnership with the council’s development partner hub West Scotland, is anticipated to start in February 2015 once work to demolish the existing buildings on the site on Main Street is complete.

Council leader Rhondda Geekie said: “This is great news for Lennoxtown and reinforces our commitment to the area by providing vital public services at a local level.

“The new community hub will bring together a wide range of services under one roof to deliver a new, flexible one-stop shop approach to customer services.

“This will make it easier for residents to access and get information about a variety of different services.

“The development will see more than £5m of investment by the council for Lennoxtown and will assist with the regeneration of the village centre.

“We will work closely with hub West Scotland, the design team and the contractor, Morgan Sindall, to bring this new community facility design to fruition.”

The two-storey high building will contain three levels, fronting Main Street in the heart of the village.

The lower ground floor will contain an entrance foyer and employee facilities with level access to the parking area to the rear of the building.

The ground floor will have a main entrance on to Main Street and will contain the front desk, library and office. The first floor will contain office space, meeting rooms and health care use including GP surgeries.

Residents had the chance to find out more and offer feedback on the new facility at information 
sessions held in Campsie 
Memorial Hall in May and 
July this year.

Feedback from these events were integrated into the building and helped play an important part in the design of the building.
